Job summary

We are Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) and we are looking for a hardworking, committed Civilian Dental Nurse to join our supportive and welcoming team here at RM Lympstone.

We are an inclusive, dedicated organisation working to provide outstanding care to our entitled personnel.

The role offers 37.5 hours per week and is only available as a Full Time post.

Job description

The primary purpose of the role is to provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in DPHC (D) dental centres, to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations. The primary location of this position will be RM Lympstone.

Person specification

Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Undertake CPD in the core subject of medical emergencies, infection prevention control (IPC), disinfection and decontamination, radiography and radiation protection; legal and ethical issues and handling complaints, as recommended by the GDC.
  • Maintain immunological protection against Hepatitis B in accordance with current guidelines, advising the line manager of any change to immunological status.
  • Be aware of the duty of confidentiality placed upon the DNs by the GDC and understand the action that must be taken to protect patients’ confidentiality in accordance with the GDC’s Principles of Patient Confidentiality document including the 9 Caldicott principles.
  • At all times, whether at work or away from the work place, act and behave in a professional manner that will not bring the profession or Armed Forces into disrepute.
  • Ensure their surgeries are prepared appropriately for the day’s patients in accordance with current regulations.
  • Carry out and record daily maintenance, servicing and pre-use checks of dental equipment reporting defects in accordance with current equipment care policies.
  • Taking responsibility for coordinating Initial Dental Inspections (IDIs) for Royal Marine Recruits, Bandsmen and Officer Cadets undertaking training at Commando Training Centre, including any subsequent treatment that is required. They will liaise closely with training teams to ensure the timely organisation and completion of treatment within a rapidly changing programme.
  • Using Microsoft Excel to create and manage patient treatment spreadsheets, maintaining oversight of recruit statistics and using these to collate quarterly returns for Project MOLAR.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a National Examination Board of Dental Nursing (NEBDN) qualification.

Memberships

Candidates must be registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Nurse.

  • National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate or NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 3.

  • Must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC), plus must have one of the following 5 post registration qualifications: Oral Health Education Certificate; Dental Radiography Certificate; Orthodontic Dental Nursing certificate; Dental Nursing Sedation certificate; Special Care Dental Nursing certificate.
  • Candidates who hold the qualifications but are not yet registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) are eligible to apply for this vacancy. However, if found successful it is a requirement that you are registered with the GDC prior to starting in the post.

Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP). The successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.
