Job Description


Overall Purpose Of The Job

Dealing with all aspects of forwarding, being an effective contributor and leader of the operation within the branch.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Business

  • To assume full responsibility for operational, financial, facilities and developmental requirements of the branch
  • To prepare the annual budgets in collaboration with Finance and Commercial teams, and to held accountable for delivering through P&L and Commercial Management
  • To deal with all aspects of International and Domestic freight movements (Import, Export by Sea, Air, Courier and/or Land) and 3PL provision of VAS
  • To identify trends within the business, and actively develop solutions for maintaining positive momentum or correcting negative patterns
  • To continually review and streamline working processes to enable best practice with lowest resource/financial impact
  • To work in conjunction with sales in development and retention of all accounts
  • To ensure profitability of accounts is maximized and loss making accounts are challenged and addressed
  • To work with finance department both on payables and receivables to resolve issues
  • To be involved in implementation of new business to ensure correct processes are in place prior to movement of goods to maintain service credibility
  • To conduct face to face meetings with all staff for appraisal process and hold ongoing discussions with open issues
  • To act as a conduit between customers and suppliers to ensure all needs are met within the specified delivery time
  • To assist on operations in peak times so a requirement to have hands-on working knowledge of multi-modal processes
  • To ensure staff the branch operates in line with Operational Controls framework for Finance related functions
  • To ensure all customer issues are resolved in a timely and professional manner
  • To negotiate contract rates in accordance with business needs to ensure that economies of scale are met and best prices achieved for the Company and/or Client
  • To perform any other duties not defined in the job description as reasonably requested / expected by the Company

Customer Service

  • To be customer facing and identify new business opportunities within existing sales portfolio of services
  • To ensure all staff who deal with customers are consistently delivering excellent customer service, and go the extra mile whenever required
  • To ensure “Best in Class” customer service is delivered at all times

Qualifications


Technical

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a Multi-Modal position, with a proven track record in Branch and Financial Management
  • Hands-on current experience in air import/export and sea import/export
  • Educated to GCSE standard (minimum of 5)
  • Ability and confidence to deal with difficult customers if the need arises
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a timely manner

Business

  • IT literate (ability to utilize MS Office tools such as Word, Excel, etc)
  • Commercial awareness is essential in this role from Key Account involvement to new business sales
  • Knowledge of Cargowise Operating System would be an advantage
