What you’ll do

You will be an antibody engineer and bioconjugation expert working in the Biologics Engineering function, focused on developing novel biologics for the Respiratory and Immunology Therapeutic Area. Biologics Engineering is responsible for the discovery and optimisation of biological candidate drugs to support all therapy area drug discovery pipelines and for the development of in-house biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to support future drug discovery efforts. You role will involve the following:

  • Independent development of strategies for the bioconjugation of payloads to therapeutic antibodies and other biologics formats

  • Identify, develop and lead new technologies and processes

  • Maintain a well-developed understanding of approaches to biologics drug discovery and chemical biology to support the department

  • Identify creative solutions to sophisticated assay, technology or drug discovery project problems

  • Lead and provide input to peer reviewed publications, patents and participate at international conferences

  • Provide technical training and supervise members of the team where required

  • Ensures own work, and work of peers, follows Safety, Health and Environment standards and all other relevant internal AstraZeneca standards and external regulations

Essential for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience

  • Background in drug discovery in the pharmaceutical industry and/or higher degree with significant relevant experience

  • Experience and in-depth technical knowledge of antibody engineering and bioconjugation strategies
  • Good communication skills and experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively, as demonstrated by publications

Desirable for the role

  • Previous experience of drug discovery project leadership

  • Hands-on experience using automation
