Production Editors
We have opportunities for two customer-focused and diligent Production Editors within our Production team which is responsible for managing the publication of the organisation’s diverse and prestigious portfolio of products.
About the role:
As Production Editor, you’ll be responsible for managing a group of products in a timely, efficient and customer-focused manner, to ensure publication on schedule, to budget and to agreed quality standards.
You will manage the full production process which can include editing, proofreading, correction and final publication, and will be working on one or more products with different workflows. Therefore the work of a Production Editor requires exceptional time management and organisational skills, the ability to manage multiple projects in line with business requirements and deadlines, as well as accuracy and an eye for detail.
Providing excellent service to authors and partners during their journey to publication, and resolving content, editorial, quality and technical queries/issues will be a key part of your role. As such, you’ll be interacting with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, as well as managing communication with, and between suppliers; proven customer service, cost monitoring, decision making and problem solving skills are therefore vital.
You’ll be involved in occasional project work, and will be encouraged to proactively contribute to continuous improvement within the department to improve processes, product quality, issue resolution and customer experience.
About you:
Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:
- Excellent editorial skills or demonstrable ability to acquire them
- Good technical and problem-solving skills; includes an aptitude for HTML, XML, digital file management and online publication
- Effective and clear communication, strong team-player, and high standards of customer service
- Organisational skills and flexibility, thriving under pressure to meet deadlines by balancing workload priorities
- Strong technical knowledge, computer skills and numeracy
- A self-motivated and proactive approach
Owing to the scientific nature of our articles, a degree and/or A/AS-level (or equivalent) in science or mathematics are desirable. Previous experience in a production role, involving either print or electronic formats, would be highly advantageous, but is not essential as full training will be provided.
What we offer:
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer employees a comprehensive benefits package including an excellent pension scheme, discretionary annual bonus scheme, private medical insurance, life assurance and generous annual leave, and a range of flexible benefits including cycle to work and gym membership.
Our modern and contemporary offices are based in the thriving city centre of Bristol, a stone’s throw away from Temple Meads train station, and within walking distance of Cabot Circus shopping centre, and numerous cafés and restaurants. Named on more than one occasion as the best city in the UK to live in, Bristol is a cosmopolitan and creative city boasting a historic harbour, internationally renowned cultural institutions and home to world-class festivals and events.
These roles can be based out of either our US (Philadelphia) or UK (Bristol) offices; most employees are continuing to work from home until later this year, and in future we will be moving to a more dynamic and blended combination of office and remote working. It is likely that Production Editors will be able to work remotely.
To apply:
Please submit your CV and a covering letter through our careers site highlighting your previous experience and how it applies to the role, and why you are interested in this opportunity and IOP Publishing.
